Our Journey
Youthset is a Nonprofit organization founded in 2019 by Tyrone Reynolds who
met a few teens in a basketball gym offered them snack and a place to have meet and fun when they are not hooping. Tyrone began to meet with those youth consistently as they voiced needing a safe space to chill, hang with friends, and have fun. After meeting for weeks, we made the space permanent and Teen Zone was born - A year round program designed to focus on meeting the needs of young people from diverse backgrounds and “getting them set for life.
Since opening Teen Zone we’ve connected with many entrepreneurs, business owners and leaders in the community to provide new and creative opportunities for the teens to be apart of.
Teen Zone has groups/classes where professionals, business owners and community activist can spill their passion and have fun with the teens, like young chefs where a professional chef comes in and teach youth cooking skills the teens learn and get to eat! Come learn about hair styling and get your hair cut at Teen Cutz. Financial Literacy & CPR First Aid/ Krav Maga and much more! Since Teen Zone opened we have had over 1000 teens be apart of programming.
Youthset is passionate and active when it comes down to community involvement. We have hosted and helped organize multiple events for teens and families such as Multicultural event to unite and be educated by other cultures, black history month events, festival of foods, youth will rise rally and march, family bbq’s, teen showcases, basketball tournaments and more. A few years ago we lost our program space due to Covid and the Teen Advisory of youthset decided to use our bus to help transport groceries to families and teens in need during the pandemic.
Youthset helped set up on George Floyd Square where we handed groceries, hygiene products, house hold items, and medical supplies to people in need. Teens also got to be apart of marches with over 10,000 people were marching behind them, meetings with leaders of the community to talk about positive ideas and steps for the Chicago Ave community and more for a month that’s what the teens did some days were 8+ hours volunteering in the community spreading love and peace amongst everyone.
Youthset is here for every teen no matter, financial status, where they come from or who they are. We want teens to succeed today, to feel safe and loved today, educated and exposed to healthy, creative and fun opportunities that will set them up for success for their future. We hope to be in every community for teens to learn, grow and thrive!
